Opinions on this cage?
I'm getting a green cheeked conure baby in the near future and would like to know what you all think of this cage. I havn't purchased a cage yet but I like the look of this one. Also, has anyone gotten a cage of the HQ website before? If so did you have a good experience with them? I'd like to know what you all think. the cage can be seen at:

I got an HQ Flight Cage, second hand, never used, from someone in my neighborhood. It was originally bought from SunCoast Sugar Gliders.
As for that particular cage itself, I don't care for it. I don't like the open top, and the cage stand is not appealing to me. Otherwise though, it IS a decent/good cage.

I don't know if it's me, but with prices like that for a cage the plastic bottom and plastic trays seem to "cheapen" it a little. Chewed up areas of the plastic that are exposed to your conure might "lessen" the life span of your cage. However, some people like the plastic bottom cages - I'm just not one of them. Also, I do agree with the assesment below of the stand as well. I don't like it much either - it kind of looks like a universal stand put under the cage - again not justifing the cost in my mind. (I'm an eBay'er so it's hard for me to pay high prices for cages of such a small size like that).
The dimentions of the cage (I assume the actual cage dimentions are something like 34Lx34Hx19D) are ok. I wouldn't recommend anything any smaller though. If you put some flexible rope perches and toys wrapped outside of the cage, it will make a great play area for your conure, which will make up for the fact that there's no playgym on top or a flat top to make your own. All in all it's a good cage for a green cheek conure or cockatiel. If you want another option: Here's a link to the cage we got for our Green Cheek, I was more concerned about inner living space than looks, but it actually looks good in our bird room. Parrot Bird glider cage cages-FD40213 - eBay (item 220237044182 end time May-26-08 16:59:54 PDT) After shipping it's about $30 more than the cage you've been looking at. But it's all safe and also all steel under it's non-toxic coating. So it'll last a lifetime. We've removed/didn't install the divider from the cage (as it's supposed to be a double cage). So the entire dimentions of living space are 20x40x38. And it doesn't demonstrate it, but the top of both sides open up to allow you to put a long perch betwen them if you want to. The shelf on the bottom provides an ideal place to put your food and extra toys. The only thing we don't like about the cage is that it's got very narrow 1/2" bar spacing.

I didn't even look at the trays, and your right, huntress, bad idea! I've got one cage that has two plastic bottoms, each with it's own cage... it's like someone took two small cages, put them together, then decided they wanted oen bigger cage out of it, so removed the cage bars and made one larger cage! I HATE it!

I've decided I'll keep looking. You all had very good points. Unfortunately birdscomfort.com doesnt ship to Australia either however I'm going to have a look at some more cages this weekend so hopefully I find something.
