Bar size, bar spacing for Hahn's Macaw cage?

There's a very strong possibility I'll be bringing home a Hahn's Macaw this month (yay, happy birthday to me!) and I'm trying to figure out cage requirements.

Here's the cage I have for my sun conure: Havana Flight Cage - Medium Bird Cages at Bird Cages (with 1/2" bar spacing)

Would something like this suffice for a Hahn's or would he need something sturdier (i.e. thicker bars) and 3/4" spacing?

Anyone have cage recommendations for a mini macaw?

Thanks!

The same size cage as your sun is in would be fine... since they will be about the same size. You need to give them lots of things to climb on and hang from... they are quite acrobatic little birds. Hahns Macaws are very sociable. They may even be buddies! Happy Birthday!

3/4" sturdy bars are what you need. Probably somewhere around 48"x36"x66" Anything bigger would be great, the size I mentioned would do a hahn's well though.

Wow, that's pretty big. A lot bigger than my sun conure's cage and the Hahns is barely larger than Stewie. His cage has interior space of 31W x 22D x 35H. It's about 60" tall including the stand. Are you saying you think a Hahn's needs 5x as much cubic cage space as I'm giving Stewie??

I've got the same birthday present as you! I also have a sun... Lily.

I just went to see my baby hahns today. She's almost 4 weeks old so she won't be coming home for a while yet.
I took my camera with me and the stupid thing decided to break down... so no pics until I visit her next. The breeder is going to try sending a pic to my phone later though.

The size you mentioned in your first post is more than fine. Congrats!

Probably don't "need" to be in as big of a cage as I posted...I go a little crazy with the cage sizes i provide my birds for some reason lol. I keep forgetting that not everyone is like me.
I keep my timneh in a cage a good bit larger than the one that I mentioned for a hahns lol, and they are near the same size as well.

Hahns like to move around like crazy, thats the reason I reccomended a large cage.

I like bigger cages too... the Hahns do need alot of room... But the cage in her first post I think will be more than adequate. She is just gonna have to put alot of fun stuff in there for him to climb on and hang from. Boings, swings... different perches. They do move fast. They are funny little birds.

Okay, cool. Thanks! The cages I'm looking at are just a tiny bit bigger than Stewie's and have sturdier bars. Good to know that this will suffice - otherwise I don't think I can bring the guy home (from the shelter, where he is in a really small cage. Boo.)

But I'm getting ahead of myself since I still haven't made a final decision on which bird to get.
