Which Cage?

Here are two of the cages I'm looking at for my White Capped Pionus:

Bayard Dometop Cage - Medium Bird Cages at Bird Cages
Bayard Playtop Cage - Medium Bird Cages at Bird Cages

Anyone have thoughts on these?

I have a CAG and a green Quaker and both LOVE their play top cages. We also have a play gym but we can't put both of them on their together so each having their play top gives them a great place to go and play with their foot toys and other great places to hang toys from. We also use the separate feeding area for fruits, veggies and treats that can't be mixed in with their dry diet of pellets, seeds, etc making much less work on swapping bowls back and forth. The play top also allows our birds to be out of their cage and have a great place to be all day w/o being cooped up in the cage. I work at home so the only time they are locked up is when we have to leave or at bedtime. Also make sure you get a big enough cage, even if they are only in there minimal amounts of time, there will always be a time or two when they are going to have to be in there for a longer period of time and the more room the better. Sorry, point about extra toys is not shown for both because all their toys are drying from cleaning.

I just don't seem to like dometop cages. We have 2 of them and 5 playtop cages. The Fids who have dometops don't seem to mind them though. Maybe its just a prefrence.

I vote for number 2 - I actually have that same exact cage (just bought from a different company) for my CAG and I like it so much that I ordered another one for my Eclectus that will be coming home this coming week.

I personally don't like the dome tops - they are just to round looking for me, however if you prefer a non play top then I would suggest either a flat top or a victorian top, both I have had a like them alot also.

I have both. Pros and cons of both? You can make all kinds of playtop out of a non playtop with wired ropes and perches and the birds get more room inside.Kinda pain hanging toys the way Id like. NO cups on top but I end up using allot of Quick lock crocks for that. Playtop? - I remove the top tray. Not enough light with it in and my birdies shred whatever liner all over if I do so I just let the poo fall through and have special shields over the food dishes and my birds drink out of bottles so...ends up they dont poo much thru the top as they prefer to go to the edge.
All in all I think it doesnt matter but the bird gets more space in the dome. I will tell you however is you might come to HATE the gaurds, lol. They bite your legs, your doggies eyes and they always look like crap with poo. I opted to remove them after about a year of having enough of them, lol. We use lightweight cloths under the cages now which pop right into the washer and I can replace them quicker. I just move the cage, pick them up, vacumme, put a new one down, put cage back. With the gaurds you have to remove and scrub and put back. That combined with cuts and bruises on the legs was enough, lol

I just got the playtop from the same online store and this is the cheapest you will find this cage, I have been looking for months for my TAG's new cage. I bought mine in Sandstone, very pretty and neutral color. If you read the reviews on the next size down, same cage, somebody remarks you can't hang toys in the cage from the playtop because of the grate/ no wires? I had no problem. The tray is maybe 1"-1 1/2" off the top wire. So quick links will fit under the top tray. Also the seed catchers are not very far out from the cage, so if you bird is a pooper shooter, you will still need a splat mat under the cage. My hubby paid for it Monday morning, maybe 9am? I received it the next day around 9am. No kidding, I couldn't believe how quickly it showed up. They did ship 1 state away from me. For being a cheaper cage, I would say it is worth the money. I have bought other cheap wrought iron cages from Ebay and the quality was horrible, this isn't too bad. All the screw fit, no chips or bends on wire. Very happy with it. I would recommend the cage 100%

If I get a chance tomorrow, I'll take a photo of it empty. I have it across the room, since my TAG is gonna take awhile to get used to it. It might be a few weeks, not sure. Every few days, I'll try to move it closer to her.

Melissa

P.S. One thing. You only get 1 toy hanger for the top, but both ends of the top perch have a space for the toy hanger, so I am gonna contact a few companies that carry this cage and see if I can just buy 1 toy hanger in sandstone so I have a toy hanger on both ends of the perch.

Melissa

Thanks for all the help guys. I did buy the playtop cage (in black). Last time I ordered from that store, the cage arrived in two days! Can't wait til it gets here and I can get Mika all set up in it (her current cage is so small, it pains me to have to put her in it)
