Question If round cages are bad for birds...

Hi all!

This is a type of "spin-off" of one of Halo's posts...

I too, have heard that round cages are not good for your bird. Something to do with them not feeling safe due to the lack of "corners", I think.

Is this true? And also, I've been eyeing an octogan-shaped cage for Harley... would this be a mistake? It doesn't really have any corners, either.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

i dont think round cages are any worse than other shaped cages

i think any bird could decide any cage at any time isnt safe - for lord knows how many reasons

if your bird is ok with it, then go for it

I've never heard that. I'm sure it doesn't hurt them, prob just more of a personal preference... or limited space...

Round cages have been around for... who knows how long.

I would have np putting my birds in a round cage... If I felt it was big enough for them.

I just prefer traditional style.

They do cause more damage to long tails though!

Some birds like a corner to sit in, and round cages don't have them. But thenm I also think it all depends on the bird.

Well I am glad to hear that too. I had read somewhere that it was psychologically damaging to keep them in a round cage but if you think about it... I guess any bird can find any type of cage wrong for it.

Sorry to start another untrue fid story!

I think fids that don't feel safe or secure are the one's that you might have heard about the round cages aren't good for. I know personally when something goes bump in the night and my fids and dogs are wigging out (very not normal, and Idon't scare easily) I would prefer a corner. At least that way 2 sides of me nothing could sneak up on me. Okay did any of that just make sense? lol

Yep, it makes perfect sense.

I guess it all comes down to what you prefer and what your bird feels comfy in.

Well, I don't know if she'd be ok with it, but she (Harley) isn't skittish at all... and she doesn't have the long tail feathers to contend with, either!

Her current cage is plenty big, I'm just noticing a few spots where I do not like how the paint looks, and a few "soon to be" rusty spots.

Thanks all!
