Cage paper help!

Hi Guys!
This is probably a really stupid question, but for those of you that use any sort of paper material to line your bird cages, how do you get the paper to stay in place?

I use just plain ole newspaper and have always had success with it, however Hope is quite the flapper. She will bat her wings and the paper will go flying, I am always running back and forth putting the paper back in place. How do you all keep your paper from moving around? Is there even a way? lol

I use plain old newspaper. When I adopted Tico I was told he would always rip the paper up (there is a grate) and I should use ground walunt shells or something similar. He started to rip it up and I corrected with a "no" and he hasn't done it since. Newspaper is cheap and works for us.

ground walnuts and the corn stuff is bad to use. Just use news papers. You mught just have to deal with them moving. You can always lay a heavier amount down, instead of a few sheets.

You can leave them in bigger sections and wet them, then dry them. They are more rigid that way.

I use newspaper in the cage and make sure there are enough sheets to weigh the lot down.

Out of the cage I use newspaper too, around the area of their playstand. When they fly the whole lot usually gets messed up and I just have to put it back again!

They will sometimes fly a few circuits of the large room their playstand is in (and where my computer is so we're all together!), now that REALLY sends the paper flying!

Yea, I have always used newspaper and nothing else and never had a problem before and I don't want to switch to something else, but the issue I am having is Hope is a big flapper and is always sending her paper flying all over the place, I am always putting it back where it belongs, but the second I put it back she starts flapping again . I think I spend more time putting the paper back then anything else. I will try and put more down so it is heavier and hopefully that will work. I actually didn't think of doing that and now that it was suggested it seems the only logical thing to do. I can be a little dumb at times

I think I'll try making the paper I use around their playstand damp, maybe it will stay put for longer!

An rag type area rug under the playstand works good too. Machine wash it as needed.

Actually that may not be a bad idea, for my two at least!

The paper is only to catch bits of food, not poo. Although they are fully flighted they never poo when they fly, only once they land and usually only in the same two places.

I could buy three or four large rugs (they're very cheap) and use a dustpan and brush to brush up the bits of food then perhaps change the rug every other day then wash them in one go overnight.

I'm getting through one hell of a lot of newspaper using it in both the cage and around the playstand this could be a way of reducing the waste. I'd like to use as little as possible in an effort to cut back on how much I put in my recycling bin.

I've no idea what refuse facilities you have in the US and Canada but here in my area of the UK we have big wheelie bins, one for refuse the other for recycling.

Worthing Borough Council - Recycling

Our refuse bins are emptied weekly, recycling fortnightly. Our refuse bins must be put out for collection with the lids fully closed, any bins with lids open aren't collected meaning we have to take our refuse to a local rubbish tip.

They've done this in an effort to force people to recycle as much rubbish as possible which is a great idea.

I recycle all the bird's paper (I shake off any excess food/poo and fold it) but was finding I was filling the recycle bin way too quickly! I then applied for a bigger bin which was delivered today so hopefully I'll be able to fit all the newspaper in!

I'd still like to reduce how much paper I use though so the rugs are something I may well try.

I use newspaper in the cages and under the play stands I use vinal one piece flooring. Its cheap and lasts forever. I sweep the food bits off when needed. For poop, I use a baby wipe and its nice and clean!
