Are These Cages Good?
Hi! I want a new cage for my IRN and cockatiel. Obviously they need separate cages! Has anyone used/heard feedback about double storey cages?
I find this on Ebay. I would put the IRN in the bottom space and the cockatiel on top. The dimensions for each individual cage are 55x60x70cm...22x23.5x27in. Obviously the perches need to be replaced but otherwise? As well as their cage they have a play area with lots of space to climb and play. They each come out to play (not together) for at least an hour every day and I will often let one of them out for almost the whole day to play. In this time they can run around my room wherever they want so I think they get enough exercise... Opinions? Andie. |

It might be a bit small for the ring neck but it depends how much time they spend out of the cage. In my oppinion if they're only going to be out for an hour a day I would try to find something a bit bigger. Some birds also get anxious being down that low (the bottom cage), but once again it depends on the bird and your situation. The cage does look well made though.

Thanks, tishtash. I see you are in Brisbane also! Can you recommend any good places to look for cages?
The main reason I want stacking cages is more room to expand their outside play area. Do you think that I could take my IRN's current cage off its stand and see how he likes being closer to the floor? Andie |

If they are out a lot... I think those cages would work quite nicely. They may not be huge... but that is rather relative. An 18x18x18 is plenty big for a ringneck... as long as it is only used as a sleeping cage!
If your guys are out more than 3 hours a day, I think the stackers will work just fine. There are a few that are a bit bigger though. Unfortunately, I am not sure where to look "down under" for them though. Also not sure of your budget.

I'm actually on the Gold Coast at the moment living back with mum so I've been mainly looking down this end for cages but if you're down this way you should try the Carrara Market. Its on Saturdays and Sundays every week and has about 4 bird stalls with a heap of good cages. I'll be getting a HQ flight cage from a lady there when I'm ready to get my green cheek but theres a lot of others aswell. Apart from that, I've heared Pet City at Mt Gravatt is good so you could give them a try. I havnt been there myself though so let me know what you think of them if you end up going there.

Thanks Robyn. It is so hard to decide!!! I have seen some of the larger cages you mention on another thread that I like so I will try and get stocklists for here. I wish my IRn can be out all day but he can't because my cockatiel and lovebird (and princess soon!) will need their turn in Birdtropelis as well. I am pretty sure they will fight if they are all together (I have never tried!). I could 'give' him the top play area though :)
Tishtash, Pet city is pretty good. They have a lot of cages but last time I was there there were no stackers. The toy section is very dangerous if you have a lot of $$ in your pocket. I haven't ever purchased livestock there though so I can't comment on that. |

Sounds like I'll have to check them out when I go to buy toys. I'll be moving back up to brissy before I get my new bird so I'll make a trip there sometime. I've also seen a big pet shop at Rochedale, I cant remember what its called since I've just seen it driving past but have you tried that one?

Personally, I'd recommend a larger cage. I don't care much for stackers as I'd rather have the birds at about eye level. Something to keep in mind about stackers... do you mind getting down on the floor to clean the bottom cage? Are you perfectly capable of bending down every day to clean out the bottom of the cage and give food and water?
If your going to get a stacker, I'd recommend getting a larger one, especially if the birds spend several hours in the cage each day, and if you ever must leave on vacation or an emergency and the birds must be kept caged 24/7 for however long your gone. I can't help with looking for cages, however if available there are HQ Flight Cages, and some even larger! 13628 HQ Breeder Double Stack Cage 36x28 - Presented by My Bird Cage Centurion Aviaries & Cage Co. & Century Mutations DOUBLE STACK FLIGHT 32 X 21 POWDER COATED - STACKER & BREEDER CAGES by Bird Paradise TRIPLE STACK WITH LOCKS 36"x24" POWDER COATED - STACKER & BREEDER CAGES by Bird Paradise The last one being the smallest I'd recommend... I'd hope you'd be able to find something along those lines in Australia!
