Question Reviews

Iam intrested in getting this cage Parrot Cage with Fancy Top & Storage Base Cabinet 32"x23" AE RY-3223: WindyCityParrot.com, Bird Food, Parrot Food, Parrot Cages, Aviaries, Bird & Parrot Supplies,Bird Toy for my cockatiel. I have searched and searched but could only find one review, were the guy stated that the bar spacing was not 5/8th but one inch. Yet his comment was in the area of the cage with one inch spacing. I think he just accidently ordered the wrong one. So does anyone have this cage? Do you think it will be safe for a tiel? I don't want him getting his head or other body parts stuck. Thanks so much for the help :)

I'm personally not a fan of the "fancy" wire. I prefer clean cut, straight lines. No "V's" or anything fancy... and cockatiels probably shouldn't be kept in cages with bar spacing any larger than 3/4". Beyond that, seems like a good cage.

I am afraid that toes would get caught in the wire at the top because it narrows at the bottom of the section.

Question

Thanks for the replies :) 5/8th of an inch is smaller than 3/4 of an inch. The only part I could think to be worried about is the design AE RY3223 - Medium Fan Top Bird Cage 32" x 23" with Storage Base and Fold-down Platform : Images at the top where the bars are closest to the edges design in the middle. It looks like it is a bit bigger but do you think it would be a bigger space than the 5/8ths of an inch they say the bar spacing is? Thanks for the info :)

Thanks for the suggestion :) I have one of those for my linnie. But for my tiel I would like to have some horozontal bars on the sides for him to climb as that is what he is use too.

It turns out that the lady quoted me wrong on the cage here is the cage she meant Bird Cage Portal - A Website Devoted to Pet Birds - AE GC63223 - Medium Victorian-style Bird Cage 32" x 23" with Open Dome Play Top (#1) It does not have the bottom drawer but it also does not have that space Iam worried about. Well I was looking I also found this cage Bird Cage Portal - A Website Devoted to Pet Birds - AE 8003223 - Medium Play Top Bird Cage 32" x 23" with Toy Hook and Breeder Box Door (#2) It is the same width and depth of the other cage but it's height is only 30 inches where the other ones height is 46 inches. I was also wanted to keep it fair  to my linnies cage North America Parrot Toys Parrot Supplies Bird Toys Swings Which is 35 inches high. What do you guys think should I get the one with ladders but is only 30 inches high or should I skip the ladders and get a victorian top which is 46 inches high.
My tiel is a bit clumsy so Iam also worried about the height he may fall. Ok guys so number one or number two and why? Thanks so much :)

1. Bird Cage Portal - A Website Devoted to Pet Birds - AE GC63223 - Medium Victorian-style Bird Cage 32" x 23" with Open Dome Play Top
Pros: It's a bigger cage, appears to be a nice design without being a danger to the bird, has two openings for the bird. If you didn't want to, you might not have to use the grate.

Cons: Unless figured out right, it could be difficult keeping toys within reach of perches due to the tall height of the cage, and the open top (not the "deck") could be a danger to a bird (although I would personally doubt it for a tiel since they are such small birds).

2. Bird Cage Portal - A Website Devoted to Pet Birds - AE 8003223 - Medium Play Top Bird Cage 32" x 23" with Toy Hook and Breeder Box Door
Pros: Clean cut design, would be easy to keep toys near perches, has a playtop

Cons: This is probably a cage that you'd need to use the grate, because a cockatiel being so small might be able to fit through the wires (or at least try to) that are below the grate but above the tray. It is smaller, but still a good size. The playtop tray reduces light inside the cage (although this can easily be gotten around).

Personally, I think it's up to you. Although, I would have to say that cockatiels tend to be pretty clumsy when they are young but usually get better motor skills as they age.

Talking

Thanks Monica and everyone else who helped I or should I say Spike my tiel choose this one Bird Cage Portal - A Website Devoted to Pet Birds - AE 8003223 - Medium Play Top Bird Cage 32" x 23" with Toy Hook and Breeder Box Door I put both on the screen asked him which one he wanted and he turned to the play top one I like this cage because it is still bigger than the one he has now, but not too tall. I find he is still fairly clumsy even though he is now two. It will be green and a flat top which is similar to what he has now. It has two ladders on top, although not as steep as the one he has now. That way we will not have to give up his ladder trick YouTube - Spike climbs his ladder Here is the cage he has now Cockatiel cage on Flickr - Photo Sharing! I think/hope that he will be able to adjust to his new cage well. Thanks again for the help
