Help with Bird Cage for GCC

Hello,
I'm buying a 5yo GCC from a petstore and s/he comes with a small cage. I plan to upgrade to a larger cage, and have narrowed my chocies to a few that I saw on the internet. If anyone on the board uses or have used any of these cages, pls advise me of any issues regarding durability, practicality, safety, etc.

2. Pet Furniture, Litter Box Furniture, Dog Car Seats & Dog Beds: A&E Cage Co. B-2620 - Large Victorian Dome Top Bird Cage

3. Pet Furniture, Litter Box Furniture, Dog Car Seats & Dog Beds: Avian Adventures 170500110-X - Nina Dometop Bird Cage

4. Quality Discount Cages - Product Detail

5. Bird Cage | Parrot Cage | Bird Supplies | Travel Cage | Wrought Iron Cage | Wire Cage - The Country Roost

6. Aviantelligence Dome Shaped Cage w/Playtop - Bird.com

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Those are great looking cages, I think I like the first one the best. 3 bowls that flip out, lots of room, flip top.

But I don't think you'll be going wrong with any of them.

Good Luck.

Help with bird cage for Gcc

I like 1 and 2. I don't like dome cages, some people do. Only get a dome or scalloped if the top opens. They look like nice cages. Rule of thumb is the bigger the better. Gcc like lots of toys! Domes are hard to hang toys from top. I like how you don't have to enter the cage to reach food and water dishes, thats' important. You might try ebay, thats' where I got my new cage.

Number 1 and number 6 are the only ones I would recommend size wise. GCC's need a variety of toys and perches, so you need a good length and decent depth. I'd keep the bar spacing to 5/8, also. They could get their heads caught in anything larger. Looking at the money aspect as well as space, the best 'bang for your buck' would be the HQ flight cage from birdscomfort (#1). I have 3 of them, housing a GCC, 2 Suns, and a Jenday. The GCC uses the WHOLE cage. Top to bottom, side to side. You can always put toys on the top to 'make' a playtop. Also, with that company you can get a dragonwood perch that runs the length of the cage...it's fitted for that cage. My bigger conures have these, but not my GCC. She prefers the rope perches so she can 'spring' around her cage. This cage is easy to put together, looks nice, and is a great size. The shipping wasn't bad, either! Here is a pic of my GCC's cage and my Sun's cage (my first 2 fids) to give you an idea of space and what you can fit in there...

I personally dont like the cages with the tops that open.. I was going to buy one when i first got my GCC, but i decided against it. I agree with Jag, the best cage are the HQ flight cages. I have one very similar to them and its a great cage. Lots of space to hang toys, very spacy, and its REALLY easy make play tops on them...

I dont like the open top cages because i find that most of the room on the top of the cage is waisted when you open it - i think it would be a pain to rearrange toys or whatever to open it.. But thats just my opinion. Also, i'm pretty sure i've heard some horror stories about birds landing on the perch between the open flaps of those cages, the cages slamming shut - and the birds being seriously injured or killed..

This is Cookie's cage - before i added two play tops on top of it. The stands got wire on the bottom - so i flipped it over on top of the cage and made two play stands on top - Cookie loves it!

I have the same cage as Jag and Emily, and I love it. I also wouldn't go with anything smaller than cage 1 or 6.

Plus... where are you from? Try looking for a bird expo near you... you can get one about the size of our HQ flat top cages for under $100 at most expos. Here's a link of some.

Thks everyone for your feedback! It's going to be either cage 1 or 6 as most of your guys suggested. Jag, thks for the info about LxD and bar spacing. Thks all for the pics of your cages, it really helped. Thks CRToon83 for the idea about the bird fair. I'm in S. Florida and there's a fair in Palm Beach Grdns next Sunday that I can possibly attend. I pickup my GCC tomorrow!
