Personally, I don't think I would paint a cage. That said, I have heard of others doing so. I've read that some have used Krylon paint successfully. At the very least you would want to make sure the paint does not contain lead, zinc, or chromate. Another thing to look for is if the paint is baby safe. Many people use spray paint to refinish furniture, which babies can easily get their mouths on, and I believe there are some spray paints that indicate they are "baby safe." If you do decide to paint, obviously make sure the birds are not in the same room while painting, paint in a well ventilated area, and let dry for at least 48 hours. You would also want to lightly sand the cage before painting and be sure to use a paint that is specifically recommended for metal. I hope that helps, and maybe someone on here will have some first hand experience.

I do not know of any spray paint that is not toxic for parrots, so unless you can find one, I would not suggest spray painting it. Your parrot will likely be poisoned because they tend to chew on the bars of the cages

Cage Painting - Quaker Parrot Forum

I used rustoleum on my cage, I don't have my bird yet and it's been painted for a month but I trust that it will be just fine.
Just make sure it sits at least 1-2 weeks before putting the bird into the cage and don't paint indoors.
