Talking Does anyone have this cage or thoughts on it? What about downsizing?

Avian Adventures Stainless Steel Grande Playtop Bird Cage

Thinking about saving up for this in the distant future.

Right now I have this
Extra Large Corner Bird Cage

It will be downsizing by alot but the new cage will be stainless steel and I would prefer a smaller sized cage.

Has anyone downsized their cage I would like to know if it has any effect on a birds like making them depressed, he will still get plenty of time out of the cage on his playstand I work about 4-6 hours a day 4-5 days a week,
and the rest of the time he will be out on playstands.

The cage I have is used and I got a great deal, I repainted over some cracks and de-rusted it, so hoping to get a stainless steel cage in the future..

If you have any other suggestions for play top cages this size or similar please post, this is for a male solomon island eclectus
Thanks

I do not have the information that you are looking for but had a question. Why SS? I have not heard of birds like eclectus needing it and they are very expensive. I know there are benefits like no chipping, etc. Other than that I am not sure of the benefits.

I have an Avian Adventures cage, the Chiquita (not in SS, just regular powercoat). I love it. Extremely well made and I love that it has no screws, bolts .. etc. It's all interlocking. I can take it completely down in 10 mins. and put it back up in the same amount of time.

Another company that does awesome SS cages is Featherland. I have one of their cages as well, but again, not in SS. They'd be another company to look at for SS cages. They also do the interlocking style of cage.

Avian Adventures has a very good reputation around here. They are considered high end quality. I have never heard anyone complain about one other than the prices. LOL

I think the cages is very nice.... I love the stainless steel. Wow! I am also a huge fan of play tops. It extends the size of their area sooo much.

I think you Ekkie will be fine in it. Like any change, it may take a little while.

When I changed Pepper over, I let him "help"... He stayed on my shoulder and watched me move everything over to his new cage. As I finished I put him in it (door open). He never had a problem with transition. I think it also helps to let them watch you put their favorite food in it and let them get at it right away. LOL

Stainless steel because they last much longer than any powder coated cage.
Typically you don't have to ever worry about rust if cared for properly, no chipping, easier cleaning, etc.

They are more expensive but should last forever and no worry about chipping, rust, or lead or other toxins which can be in any type of paint.

I have an avian adventures cage not SS, chiquita. It's very sturdy, well made. I've downsized before to cages that took up less floor space but made better use of the space. Going from an odd corner shaped cage you might be suprised how roomy the new cage is because of it's shape. Tiki is a very active bird so he just keeps going up in cage size. My grey was in a huge macaw sized cage for 10 years, and he only used about a third of it, and when I downsized him the smaller new cage had better head room for his high perch and he took to it right away. If he's out of his cage a good portion of the day cage size becomes less important, if cages are too big then there's no room for playstands!

Well the corner cage I have is literally huge inside it's not one of those corner ones that seem even smaller than they look I can get in it and walk around lol.

What size is your Tiki?? The Chiquita cage is two sizes down from the grande and in between there is the medianna which I was looking at, SI eclectus should be around 12 inches if I am not mistaken and are not as active in the cage as amazons, I was wondering if I should go all out with the bigger one I know the medianna's description says good for eclectus in the sizing info, I don't want to be disappointed by the size though! Especially if I go with SS which would be for the life of my boy.

I have two medianas in red. one dome and one playtop.
my two complaints are..
1. i have the red..its hard to keep clean with dusty species. (my fault)
2. the greys can easily reach the paper in the tray and pull it up through the grate.

they are high gloss, so dusting will need to be done more often. but they are well made and go together easily.

Thanks alot, you don't have any problems with size with the mediana?? Tiki should be very similar in size to a grey.

They just look so small compared to what I have now lol.

One thing I don't like about my cage is that it's so big that -
1. there is little space between the top and ceiling
2. I will have to get a ladder to get him down from the top so most
likely any out of cage time will HAVE to be on a playstand!
3. It's so heavy to roll around I have it on tile but cleaning under and around it is going to be a pain.
