: Wooden Toys - Stealing from rodents :

Hey all, another question from the newbie! While in Canada I went to a pet store that displayed baby cockatiels. The 'tiels sat on these quite happily.

Do any of the owners here have these? Do the cockatiels like them? Are they safe?

What is your opinion of this as a general sitting place for 'tiels?

I don't have any of those, but I steal from the rodent and rabbit section ALL THE TIME! They always have stuff for sale. I also take the harder toys from the cat section to use for foot toys for the birds.

Oh YES! I work in a pet store and we give them to our birds. I also use the fruit flavored wood chews and sticks and make toys for the birds. Cheaper then buyin bird toys and its the exact same thing!

I have never seen those but I LOVE the second one! It would do great on a play stand. I never thought to go to the rodent and rabbit section - hello! I bet they have great chew toys!

I never thought to go into it either as I thought bird toys were specifically for birds (except for larger birds like macaws and cockatoos; I've seen them play with cat toys and toddler toys)

The bottom one is from the Zooplus website, a UK website but I'm sure that there will be a US/Canadian stockist for them. What wooden chew toys would be safe for cockatiels? Bonnie loves trying to destroy what she can't eat

theres a rabbit toy at pets unlimited here that i reallt want to try! it hangs from the bars, has a rabbit head, then a metal bar going down with a bell that screws on and off on the bottom.. Its for putting wood peices and other toys on, I thought it'd be a good idea to put fruits and veggies on.

I raid the small animal section of my local pet stores all the time! :) Jack's favorite toy is actually a toy originally for a rabbit

Well, I've just looked through the rodent section online and I've seen this

Apparently it's 15cm x 14cm x 14cm. But could you imagine bugies or even cockatiels on that? Finches?

The rodent and cat sections are great. I love digging through the sale bins at Petco. They never have bird stuff but rodents and cat stuff over flows. Abbeys loves the earth friendly cat toys. They are great shredders.

Just because it says "made for birds/rodents/cats" doesn't mean it should be restricted to that type of animal. Bird toys are fun for rats too! My lori likes playing with cat toys lol
