Jolly Balls

Im trying to find alternative way of either getting a cheap jolly ball or making something similar.

Here in australia they cost $80 and then you have to pay postage... to me this seems a bit over the top for a bird toy.

Does anyone have any alternative ideas?

I did make a ball out of paper mache and cut holes in it and my sun loves playing in it, but its slowly being destroyed. So something a tab more permanent would be nice.

Thanks :)

I like the paper Mache idea!! You could totally build in little cups on the outside to hide treats in! I am totally stealing the idea...

As for something more permanent, what about using two coloured plastic salad or punch bowls and putting holes in them? I think that one large bowl with a flat plate on top or a second bowl inverted might work. It is hard to explain what I mean, so I will try to draw a picture. Please excuse how dodgy and out of proportion my drawing is!!!

Off to the other computer to scan the picture...

My dodgy drawing...

Photo 26.jpg

The cut out bits are the holes...

I think you would attach it together with rope or strong wire. It would just be to stop the bird pushing the bowls apart and getting caught in between.

The bottom could be secured by threading a strong curtain ring (too small for bird head to get stuck in!!) through the chain.

That is my idea.

Awesome idea Andie. & I LOVE the paper mache ball, what a great idea!! Its nice too because the bird can use it as a shredding toy so its even more fun for them!!

Yes, I was wondering What you used to hold the paper together.

Flour and water? That would seem to be the safest option if you run it by the experts what flour would be best for them

I'm tempted to do this as well, How did you make the ball?

You could roll it in crushed nutriberries or pellets afterwards to make it really forage worthy?

Paper mache is just water and flour. For the ball you use a balloon and then pop it when done. Now I just need a huge balloon for my moluccan!
