Cage Brands.... I Can't find a decent cage
Hi everyone... I have several different cages, the latest was the biggest overpriced junk I have ever bought. It was a Kings Cage for my M2. Why is it that the designers of these cages have such cheap skirting, and notice the skirting is never wide enough. I have a playtop and Peaches is always outside of her cage, on the playtop, and when she sits on the corners, her poopies miss the skirting. If these manufacturer's would make appropriate cages/skirting for the larger birds, I wouldn't mind paying for it...
So frustrating. I have Avian Adventure cages for my smaller birds, the Myers and a conure who is no longer with us. The skirting is fine for the smaller birds.... Oh and on the Kings Cage, Peaches had the door lock off in less than 2 minutes. So I'm asking for your opinions on cages for the larger birds.... Peaches isn't big at all, she is one of the smallest M2's out there. |

peaches original cage is a HQ which I still have and use for her when we are outside (too many hawks and owls around). But the skirting got damaged. I like the playtops, they can hold so many more toys, and my Peaches is spoiled with toys... I wanted a stainless steel cage when I bought the kings cage, but they didn't have the model I wanted in SS. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. I'll check out the HQ models, I wonder if they have any new ones....

I have my RB2 in an AA Mediana Playtop cage; it's a great size for her (just ordered another for Ayesha).. Instead of using the skirts, I just put down linoleum under the area. This way I have to clean one thing (floor) instead of two (floor and skirt).
*I don't count the cage, I would have to clean that regardless. :)

I too am seeking a decent cage for my TOO
I also need cage help/advice. I have often wondered if the people who design bird cages ever owned a bird. I came upon a silverado cage that I was considering and I am wondering if it is the same cage becca623 is recommending. Silverado Macaw Cage | Pet Solutions I have been hesitant because the description states,"slip-in mesh panel construction." I have no idea what that means and wonder if it will hold up. Please let me know because it is a decent size and great price.
I hated cleaning the cage skirting and the surrounding areas because as you mention most time the skirting doesn't seems wide enough to catch all of the droppings. I now line/cover the skirting with newspaper, which is easy to change. The linoleum idea for the surrounding floor is fantastic. l had the same idea but my husband was against it. I did manage to come up with an alternative. I have a dozen 99 cent stores in my area. I buy a plastic table cloth and use it under the cage. When dirty I simply throw it away. And now after reading Phenomenon's post I am wondering why I even use the skirt. No skirt, no need to clean or paper. Brilliant! Glad I came upon this post.

I have no idea about the mesh. Mine has regular wrought iron bars and panels. That is the cage I was recommending. The size is great.
