Any suggestions

Hello, I currently have an adorable BHC that is 9 months old, I am going to leave town for a couple weeks and have a college age son I am leaving to babysit him. M question is, can anyone suggest any dried fruits or veggies, (as far as brands, healthy, etc.) that I can leave for my son to feed in addition to my little guys pellets? I will be leaving fresh fruits and veggies too, but I know my son has a busy schedule between working and school, and i want to make sure nothing spoils in his food bowls during the time he is gone. Was wondering how supplementing dried fruit/veggies would work. If it isn't a good idea, that's ok too. My son will have to make more trips to the grocery store!! Thank you....

hi...i have an adorable 6 month old wbc who will be left with my college son in 3 mos when i go on a 2 week vacation. besides the blend dry mix i give him...i'll be leaving some nuts, dried fruits (mango, pineapple, coconut, papya) for him too. i'm not going to even bother having my son give him the "cooked" food as i'm afraid he'll forget to take the bowl out and the food will spoil. he is a pretty responsible kid as he works and goes to school too..but he stays up late...and may oversleep. etc..etc...dried figs, blueberries, cranberries are also treats my caique likes. cheerios is another nice treat.
enjoy your vacation! try not to worry...easier said than done!

Thanks for the info, for the same reasons as you have, I didn't want to leave fresh foods in his bowls, I just wasn't sure if the dried fruit or veggies had to be a certain kind or not, or just from the grocery store - Yes, cheerios are good! I also give whole wheat bagels. Just want him to be completely nourished till we get back! Have fun!

You know what I do, I give them dried fruit that they sell at Petsmart for small animals. I think it is in the bird aisle. I also buy the nuts and sprinkle that over his food. I add dry cereal. The last time I left for 10 days, I left gerber apple juice and baby food for the pet sitter to give them with strict instructions to refrigerate immediately afterwards and throw out after two uses. I just let my conure and caique eat out of the container and stick it in the referagerator till the next day. After the second time, about 24 hours later, I throw it out. It might be overkill, but I feel safer. Your son could feed the juice and food directly to him - ie hold it under his beak and after he eats his fill, refrigerate it. They usually finish in a minute or less. My conure especially like the baby food, and they get so excited and dance around when I give them the apple juice, like little kids getting a treat!
