Is this breeding season?

My little temperamental male caique had finally calmed down...just the perfect little pet - playing, cuddling, wrestling. Everything was going fine, until I left for three days. When I returned, he was very standoffish...nipped a couple times (drew blood) over a period of a few days, didnt want to cuddle so much or wrestle. I dont know if it was being gone that set him off or if this is breeding season. He does try to masturbate on things laying around the counter. I had to leave again for two days for work, so I dont know what to expect when I return.

I think caique breeding season is generally around fall, in North America.

it is breeding season, but I would be more inclined to think he is a little upset with you for leaving, that would seem more likely.

Hey guys. Thanks! I believe you are right. He gets mad and jealous so quickly! I just got home this afternoon from being gone on a 2-day second trip, and he is back to his cuddley playful self, for now at least. This, after being ignored when I had to rush the conure to the vet for a broken blood feather when I walked in the door with my luggage.

Caiques breed in their natural habit from about Jan- Oct. So yeah, its breeding season, especially in this climate with the weather changing and all. But I agree, sounds like your little guy was jealous!
