Question Help find the right bird for me

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello! My husband and I have been doing some research on parrots trying to find the right bird for my family. We first became interested when we went to Parrot Mountain in Pigeon Forge, TN. After visting there the first time I was hooked on wanting to get a Parrolet, but after returning a second time I think a cauque might be the best. Also wanted some input on a ringneck... I have a 10 year old small dog, and a 19 month old son. I stay at home with my son. Any advice which might be better for my family.

I'd not get a caique as a first bird then. I am firmly of the belief that one should have prior bird experience- be that handling birds, fostering birds, what have you, before delving into caique-land.

Thats good! Research is a good thing. You are in Charlotte? Fantastic. You have access to Phoenix Landing- look them up online. They go all over NC and VA and do educational seminars. Look into attending one of their seminars, they offer a couple for beginner bird owners.

That being said please keep in mind of what life with a bird requires:

No more candles, air freshners, sprays (OOOOHH how I miss candles!)
No more perfume, cologne
Most house cleaners will no longer be acceptable
Need to buy all new non-teflon pots and pans

These are just a few.

I wish I had done more research before getting mine but then that was 19 years ago! I didn't know about all these requirements.
