Question Caique Companions for Caique Companions?

I've read that caiques are one of the few species of companion birds that can actually be kept with another of its own kind in the same cage (have a roommate/birdie friend) and still maintain its bonds with its humans.

If I ever get another caique and keep it with Chico, will it lessen Chico's bond with us, however?

Also, I've seen a couple of caiques that are kept together in the same cage. They're pretty friendly with humans, but they are each other's best friend. They romp and play with each other all day. As a result of their roughhousing and fondness for "extreme sports" together, their feathers are always a mess. When I say "mess", I mean that they each have some feathers missing, they always look disheveled, etc. Their owner actually thought they might have been plucking feathers to achieve that look, but she's never seen them plucking.

For those who have two caiques that live together, is this something that is to be expected?

Also, when first introducing a new caique to the already-established one, is it reasonable to expect some fighting, jealousy, etc.? Should I be prepared to keep the new one in its own cage for a while?

I don't plan on getting another caique for some time, but I'd like to learn about it for the eventuality.

There is always a risk that any bird will not get along with the other bird and will lose tameness and bonding to you, if you get a second bird in that species. That is true for caiques as well. It is my opinion that our companion birds do not need companion birds, we are their companions. Whenever I got another bird, it was as a companion for me and my family, not as a companion for another bird.

If you do ever get another caique, you need to (1) get a new, very large cage; (2) watch them carefully as caiques will kill another bird if they do not want it around and (3) do not put two males together as they will be aggressive and fight.

Is yours a yellow thighed caique or just a WBC dleary?
Also, I dunno, if it were me I would be worried about the roughousing of the two birds and house them seperatly and then just let them play under supervision.
