Might depend what "alot" is and are his nares runny or dry? It could be normal. Altho Bailey is not a big sneezer, it is something common in caiques.

My little guy sneezes a lot also. The vet said he is fine. I have since heard that caiques do sneeze a lot. Still, I would ensure that your bird isn't ill. I try to keep my bird's night cage expecially clean of bird dander, as it seems that he sneezes more at night. I must say though that his tiny sneezes are really cute!

Caiques are know for sneezing, they do it because they can! Some do it more than others. They also pick their noses which will make them sneeze. Just as long as there is no discharge with these sneezes there is nothing to worry about.

Ditto what everyone else said. My caique does that as well, plus he is always scratching at the part of his head where his ears are. We even had him at the vet who did some tests, flushed his sinuses, and said he's just fine (and please pay the 200.00 on your way out....LOL) Anyway...as long as his nares are dry, I wouldn't worry.

Yep- they sure do. Mine LOVES to pick his nose. Drives me nuts. Never know if he's shoving bacteria up in there.
It's kind of cute though.

sneezing and nose picking

Hi

i am glad you have put this on here, i was starting to worry over her sneezing and picking her nose she shoves her claw right up there i really was worried that she had something stuck up there, like my boy did when he was a small child thought it was a good idea to stick a pea up his nose.
anyway i know that she is ok and this is normal for caique, also she scratches a lot is this also normal, or could she have mites or something i have only had her a week so i am learning all the time, so glad to have this web and all you folks out there helping us novices.
keep up the good work and thanks.

My caique scratches a lot also. His skin is really dry, especially in the arizona dry heat. He has been to the vet many times for various matters and checkups and they have never remarked on his having anything wrong with him. I also took him to the vet for sneezing, which he said was normal. Like your bird, he picks his nose a lot! Very funny!
