Maiden Flight

Ok, I am done LMAO..so I can post now. The suit has been here for some weeks, on their cages, on me, on their playpen, on the floor, next to them..whereever. Today, I decided to do this because Shrek loves going outside with me..all I have to do is say, "Let's Riiiide!" and he steps up...it was time to start his training in earnest.

I do have a carrier that they ride in (netting with a perch) in the car, but I don't like leaving them in the car and he's so well behaved when I take him places (except he won't go to anyone else..he just refuses)..the only issue is the inconvenient times that he may decide to defecate. Now without further ado...I give you...daaaa dddummmmm!

The funniest thing was (I was unable to get a pic) as soon as it was on..he promptly flopped over on his back and played dead.

Thanks..I wish I could have gotten a shot of him when he was playing dead!

There was no mistaking his body language. He avoided me for a while after I took it off...I did end on a good note; took it off after he had the treat for standing still for a while.

Great pics! Did you get him outside with it on? so that he associates it with getting to go outside/on trips?

I did the same as you with the flight suit when my caique was a baby. We played birdy games with it, wrestled with it, ate with it, etc. for several weeks. But when I tried to put it on him, you'd have thought the thing was trying to eat him. He was so upset that I couldnt bear to put it on him.

Ahhh, it wasn't a bed of roses for me either. But it had to be done. He wants to go outside with me, he loves to travel..but those "accidents" were stealing the joy of taking him places. I have raised kids..I have learned to be hard...if it got to be done, it's got to be done..no getting around it; eventually he's going to need a harness, too, because we have a lot of hawks around here.

Really... he was very well behaved, considering. Even while he was trying to rip the FS a new one, he remembered not to bite me.

I didn't get to get him outside..thanks for that suggestion..I totally forgot in the focus of just "getting it on him."

They DO "perform" don't they! I was laughing though the whole process...while telling him to "BE COOL, it's not going to hurt!" and trying to calm him down..finally just thought to myself.....just get it done so he can see that he survived and I didn't hurt him and I did pay attention to his health..he can't always have what he wants.
