Smile SUCCESSFUL ! Mom Canary does great !

My background is in budgies and lovebirds, but I also have doves & finches & canaries - and am totally owned by my African Grey.

My canaries had their (and my) first clutch recently. The mom had three eggs, but only two hatched. I did not remove the eggs from the nest and replace them with dummie eggs, to return them at the same time.... but I might next time because even though there was only two days difference between my baby chicks birthdays, there was some serious concerns.

The older chick grew rapidly, and the younger chick seemed to fall behind a bit everyday. I hand-fed the younger chick when I saw his crop was nearly empty, and was surprised to see the older chick's crop was almost too full.

I have a scale for weighing my baby chicks, which was very important in seeing how everything was progressing. Now at 3.5 weeks both chicks have the same weight.

The mom chick favorited the older chick, and now that they are 3.5 weeks old, and the younger chick has caught up in size, the mom still favors the older chick.

They are learning to eat and play, and perch which is so adorable. I think everything is going to be okay now !!

Congrats to you on your canary babies doing so well:)

They sure must be teeny tiny when first hatched!

I would like a canary one day myself :)

Are they yellow or?? I saw at our local parrot store they had some orange ones in..wow they were very pretty :)
