Canaries as pets?

I have decided to get a bird, but would like to know if canaries would be my best bet. My original decision was getting a parrot or mynah but I'm afraid I won't have enough time for it since I go to school. I think canaries are beautiful and like them alot because they sing. I do know that they are cage birds but I'd still like to know if you can tame a canary and if they would be affectionate. I was also looking into getting one lovebird but would like to know if they will suffice with an two hours TOPs of attention. If you could answer my questions I would be very grateful. :D

Yes Canaries can be tamed and will perch on fingers, sit on heads, fly toward "mama" or "papa" but they normaly to not like direct attention meaning back petting, belly rubbing or laying down and cuddling. Most tame Finches react this way. Canaries do not need as much attention as a parrot would as long as they are taken care of properly! They will also have a pleasant sound vs. the squak of "hookbills". Lovebirds need attention daily as they can revert back to a wild stage quickly after weaned.
