Can a Canary live with Finches?

Hello! I have a canary living by himself right now, and I have a big finch cage (30" wide by 18" deep by 36" high) with 2 owl finches, 2 society finches, a spice finch, a cordon blue finch, and red headed parrot finch. Does anyone know if my canary could live in there with them?

i think they can, if you do put them together, make sure you watch them closely to make sure they are getting along.

Yes. I used to have a small flight with canaries and a variety of finches. However, you have to be careful about adding nests as even the smallest of birds will turn aggressive and attack.

I had breeding black and white mannikins and the canary tried to enter their nest. I caught one of the mannikins dangling the canary by its wing. No one was physically hurt but I had to quickly make some changes.

I stayed at a hotel last summer that had, in the lobby, a glass enclosure that housed canaries and finches. It was beautiful. It had birdhouses, nests, and a working water-sprinkler that the birds could bathe under. It made me want one.

A local bird store in my area has, as their storefront window display, an aviary housing probably 80 or so canaries and finches together. They have two windows like this and have had them for the decade that I've known about this store.

Male canaries are territoral and not usually social. He is very happy in his own cage where he will sing more than he will with others in his space.
