artificial plants in cages

I'm new to the Goulian finch world. I've seen finch cages with silk looking plants in them. It really is pretty and the birds seem to like it. Are they specially dyed cage plants? Where do I buy them?

What do finches like for decor and toys?

THanks, Jeannie

Hi Jeannie!
I'm a relatively new gouldian owner, too. (Aren't they fun!?) I've been wondering about plants, too. They must be hard to keep clean. I'll be interested to see what answers you get here.

I read that they like string hanging from the celing for a toy but mine ignored that.

One thing mine do seem to like is a twig perch that I put vertically so they can land on it and eat the entire length of millet spray that I hang from the ceiling of their cage with a millet spray.

Stacy

There are plants designed for aquariums that have a silk look to them[very realistic].Also ones made for reptile habitats.I'd bet these are a safer alternative than ones used in home decor.

We have a large aviary at work. The walls are adorned with silk as well as plastic plants. The birds all love them. The only drawback to the silk ones is that over time they fray. Gotta be careful so that the birds don't get caught up in these strings. The plastic ones (from the aquarium as well as reptile sections) work great! Easy to take down & clean too :)

I have 72 Zebra's and I have Plastic plants in all the cages. They love it. I also use spanish moss which I get at Wal-mart in the plant department. It is cheep and makes good bedding material.
