Selecting for Color Mutations in Zebra Finches??

I have a question. I've been reading about the various color mutations that Zebra finches can have. But I'm wondering, as a breeder, how exactly do you "select" (or can you) for certain mutations? Currently, I have a female (Emma) who is rather pale, and a male (Darwin) of normal color. Voltaire, their offspring, is a male with a little bit lighter of a color, though not as light as his mother...

what do you mean by selecting??

Zebra finches, in a few years, i believe will be close in mutation numbers, to say budgies and cockatiels.
i used to breed these little birds as a begginner, they are nice, but if u are planning to breed other species with them, good luck ;)

It sounds that the hen that you speak of is, a fawn bird, which is a paler version of the normal. If your male is a normal bird, and it was only one baby they had, it would likely be a normal bird.

my advice is if u would like to breed a certent colour, get a male of that colour, and maybe a hen close to that colour, or maybe a split hen.
Actually if u would like one colour inberticular, just get a male, and female of that colour, easy as that :)
although i still cannot garantee that, as zebra's are so domesticated, a hen or male, may have other colours in them, that just dont show.

i hope this helps, but im shore there is someone on this forum that would no for shore :)

Ok, new question.

Suppose all four of my bird's last clutch had survived. Is there a chance that some may have been lighter like their mother, and some a more usual color like their father?
