New Member with Finches and Canaries

So, as the title says I just joined the forum here.

Right now I have 7 zebra finches (4 silver, 1 fawn, 1 cream, 1 pied silver). It's funny because my original birds were all grey or fawn and now I have mainly recessive colors.

Plus there are 4 female canaries. I had bought a group from a breeder...but something was wrong with one female and she killed another while in quarantine, and then my male turned out to be female etc (the breeder is actually very good, I just had bad luck). Then I went through another breeder and got a pair of reds to go with my red-bronze and variegated mosaic that I still had (from the original group). My male turned out to be female...AGAIN. I'm hopefully going to go look at a group of males this weekend, so maybe my long search for an actual MALE will be over.

Two of my female finches

The same pale female with one of the silver males (he's always been scrawny - I got him as an adult and have had him for several years and he's never changed)

My other male with the females

The remaining 3 birds are a clutch of all silver that came from the scrawny silver male and the fawn female. The pied male and the pale/cream female have never bred - or rather, they've never succesfully hatched anything.

The canaries

You may notice I haven't exactly been diligent about color feeding.
