In Search of Java Finches!

I wrote this in the welcome thread as well.

My name is Stacy i am 33 and from South eastern Michigan. I have been an avid cat lover all of my life and never thought i'd love another animal as much. My fiance rescued a baby sparrow last year and we hand fed it and gave it lots of love and dedication. Now she is almost a year old and healthy as ever!

A couple months ago we were in the pet store and i noticed in the finch cage,a couple birds twice their size. That's how i was introduced to the Java finch! We bought one and gave him his own cage because our sparrow is a meanie bossy brat! We showered him with toys and treats but he didn't move or "speak" much. A few weeks later we went to the store and seen the other Java was still there. He didn't look so great. I told my fiance we HAVE to get him! Huey needs a companion! So we did and right away Huey started moving around more and being playful and "chucking" a lot more :) We just recently found out they are both males because Huey is starting to do the "Stevie Wonder" warning dance/sway.

These birds are amazing to have! They are not loud, which is important because my fiance works midnights, and they are easy to care for:) But now our problem is we need to seperate the boys because they are starting to fight. I have been trying to find 2 female java's but i have had no luck:( We seen some at this trade center place in mt Clemens Michigan but their birds looked HORRIBLE AND NOT TAKEN CARE OF. They wanted $60 per bird. That's ridiculous because we got ours for $25 each and they usually run $20-$40 tops! We are really hoping to find 2 white female's for our regular male Java's. That is why i joined to be honest. If anyone knows of a place that sells Java's anywhere close to Se michigan PLEASE let me know!!

Hi Stacy, Seems we are neighbors:) Have you tried any bird shows? I just went to one in Liviona this past weekend and they had a lovely female there soild white! They wanted only 30.00 for her.
There is another show coming up on June 7th in Waterford. Also one in Ann Arbor in Aug. I believe.
The Ann Arbor one as I remember from years ago is HUGE!!!! Im going to both of these shows.Would you like to split the gas costs? Its always more fun to go with someone who is "really into birds than ones who just go "to go"")
I would never buy from a pet store and the one you are speaking of is a HORRIBLE place I know of it well. But she pays her rent....<sigh>.
I have finches..
5 Gray Singers 3 are out of the nest from a opps litter:)
2 Cordon Bleus
2 Spice
5 8 yr.old sassypants Zebras")
My newest family member is a 1 yr.old agate mosaic canary male hesings till his throat gets sore")I just bought him at the last show.
Now Im torn between finches and canaries...I did want some Javas but now I just dont know.
Anyway good luck on finding your bird Always buy from a good breeder! They are cheaper and better cared for!

You can also order Javas from this guy in Louisiana - he will mail or fly them to you.

I have a pair, the male being a normal java, and the female is a fawn. Let me tell you, it's very hard to get them to breed! lol. They're best buds right now, but have no interest in a nest.
I would do a google search on javas for sale around you, and see what that brings up. Good luck!
