I have 3 eggs!

Thanks folks for all the advice on diet and nesting materials for Gouldians. I have three eggs as of tonight. I'm so excited. I've heard they aren't the best parents but maybe I'll get lucky.

LOL. I have chickens and peacocks. My goodness those eggs are tiny.

Much appreciation for the advice.

Congratulations on the eggs, and good luck raising them! From what I hear, Gouldians can be good parents - it just depends on the pair and their experience.

I have over 20 Gouldian finches & only have one pair that would raise their babies. 2 pairs ate their eggs & All the others would hatch them out, then toss the babies. I kept society finches on hand to help out. I moved a few months ago & haven't put nest boxes up again yet. Hope yours do well. Crystal

Heres a bit of hope for you. I have attempted to breed one pair of Gouldians and they bred within 2weeks of being paired up. They sat on the eggs religiously, so much so that in order to carry out a nest inspection, I had to pull the nest OUT of the cage and shoo the mother out (that was after she bit me for sticking my finger in there). I only did this because it was their first clutch and usually they are infertile, otherwise i just leave them be.

Anyway they fed the chicks better than any other finch ive ever seen including zebs and the babies are big, fit and healthy and are almost feeding on their own now.
