Zebra & Society finch mating?
I'm hoping they don't, but, can a Zebra (Female) and (Male) Society Finch, successfully profligate.
A neighbor gave me the Zebra, and I decided she needed company. Since the Society get along so well with other species, I figured it would be a safe pairing. Well, We've got 4 eggs so far, the timing is way off, on when they were laid. And, both bird are sharing the sitting duty throughout the day, and both overnight. The Society is a little better at sitting. The first egg is past prime, and one of the eggs appears slightly darker that the others. Corkiebrd |

I knew the Society's parenting traits were stronger then the Zebras. Several breeder I've known have said, they'd swapped Zebra eggs, into a Society's nest for that reason. I didn't know the two species would actually mate, I thought it unlikely. But, it looks like if any of these eggs hatch, we'll getting another cage. We're up to egg 5, so, in under 18 days we'll know for sure. And, oh, that is a pretty little fellow you've got there, even for a hybrid, does he sing or beep?.

Hi guys. It looks like your baby is turning into more zebra than society but I do see some of both. How cute he is! Yes, zebs and societies can breed if I'm not mistaken. I have an non breeding indoor aviary with 24 finches (huge aviary). My very favorite species is the society. Why? Because of their gentle nurturing nature and their personality in general. When I have allowed my goulds to breed, the societies have parented the chicks with tender loving care. Societies are not the most colorful finch nor have the prettiest song but they are still my favorite. (And I also have two zebra girls - Molly and Patsy.) Zebras are fun too.
