Red face Zebra Hatchlings

Well, so far so good. The hatchlings are one week old and mama pushed the last egg that I was concerned with out of the nest. I have seen her feeding the babies a couple of times when I get lucky. l also have heard them squalking at times. Not loud but you can see their little beaks open begging for food. How long before they leave the nest? I have read up here on a few threads that it only takes a week but they definately don't look ready. I checked this morning and their eyes are not open yet...at least it doesn't seem like it. They have a few feathers and if I catch mommy off the nest I will try to get new pics. I have just been adding new egg food, seeds and water. I did clean the bottom of the cage tonight but I did it quick. Nothing thorough or intense. Just wanted to get in and get out. So...again when do they leave the nest...I am getting concerned. Thanks

I don't think it is just a week.....can't say I remember (someone always has babies in the aviary), but think it is a while. They will be pretty loud begging before they come out and have most all of their feathers. Even funnier, they will be full grown and their beaks turning orange and they will still beg if mom or dad will feed them.

Smile Whew!!!

Thanks so much!!!! I thought I had done something wrong...a week just seemed too early. I guess I should just let them be and thrive. Since moma is feeding and still keeping them warm, nature will do the rest!!!
