do female finches burst out in song on occasion?

I'm a newbie, with two society finches.

Lizzy Bennet

and Mr. Darcy

I've been researching finches, because I'm trying to figure out the sex of each bird. I'm pretty sure Darcy is a boy, since he sings all the time, and sleeps in the little woven basket at night. Lizzy on the other hand, I think is a girl because it usually just cheeps and sleeps on top of the basket... but on occassion she'll burst out in a short song.

Is the fawn a girl or just a more subdued boy?

Hard to say - I had a female canary that sang a long soft song. Soooooo....
Sleeping on top of, or in, the basket means nothing in regards to sex. The only way to tell with societies is if they lay an egg, lol, or DNA

if she only sings once in a while. she is a female because female do sing on occasional **mine does that sometimes**. Normally though the male are very hyper and always singing. They sing to get attentions. lol ^_^. Good luck hon.
