Gouldian Baby photos

Aren't they cute? They left the nest this morning. They've been practicing flying skills. So much fun to watch.

I lost one chick. It was dead in the nest box. I couldn't tell what happened. I'm really sad about that. Any ideas?

Jeannie

They are very cute, congratulations. They only way to really know what happened is if you refrigerated it's body and took it in tomorrow for a necropsy.

They are so cute. Will they change color as they age?

I am sorry to hear about your loss of a baby.

CONGRATULATIONS!
And the other bird must have been the runt of the pack and didn't demand food from the parents like the others did

They left the nest 3 weeks to the exact day. Mine were quiet the first day. Then they find out how to use their wings. You'll have lil birdied flitting everywhere practicing flying skills. They were even swinging on the swings. Oh so cute and the wonderful sound of hungry little birdes gets louder.

I so want Gouldians. Dont wanna pay, lol. Id have an aviary full of em.
You lose babies sometimes - anything can happen. Its not strong and its natures way of keeping the species strong. It is so sad to find a tiny little body lying in the box.

Yes, they do change color at the first moult. Gouldians are the true beauties of the finch family. I love my goulds. They love to go to bed early and sleep late. All that beauty takes a lot of energy - LOL. Beautiful babies. Congratulations! Try not to feel too badly about the baby that did not make it. It does happen. There may have been something wrong. We aren't meant to always know these things.
