I have been offered a male for $50. I'm going to get him and put him in a hugeical cage as he is in a little parakeet cage right now with nothing but straight perches and food cups.
ANYHOO, I only know what Ive read about them and dont know many finch people.

Anybody here ever have one?? Should I find him a couple ladies????

I got pics. Look at this sad cage for such a majestic little guy. He is in full breeding plumage and will look like a hen later on. Poor guy probably doesnt even know what a hen looks like. Ive been trying to talk these ppl down for awhile and they finally succumbed to my badgering.

Get him a hen by all means, but most urgent is more space to show off that tail. They are very rare in Europe now due to a complete import ban few years back.(Bird Flu) Only older birds around now as they are nearly impossible to breed being parasitic like the cuckoo.A breeding programme would be very costly and would need a very large aviary....plus a lot of luck and skill.
Paul.

I wonder if the hens ever even care for their babies? Or does the "other" mom do it all. I was wondering if you put nests in the aviary with "other" eggs in it if they would take over the nest or do they need the other moms. Are Whydah hens bad mommies????????????
