How long for a acanary for being start lay eggs?

Just wondering, when a canary hatched from his egg, how long must i wait untill start lay eggs and make babies?

safe to wait until they are at least 18 months to two years for the hen. She may lay eggs sooner but best not to instigate it.

18 to 24 months??? That's a really long time. Is that really nescessary?

For the health of the bird, yes it is VERY necessary! Young birds make horrible mothers if they survive the egg laying process. They have a tendancy to abandon nests, mutilate young, or not feed because they don't understand what is going on.

Hmmm, what about other parrots? Like lovebirds, budgies, cockatiels, zebras...???

zebra good to go at age of 3 mnths but wait till 6-8 :)
