Sick or sad bird?

One of my male society finch, Marcell, has been acting...well, less active. Today for a while he acted like he was sad. He would kind of crouch on a perch, stay still, and breathe with his beak open like he was overheated. The room wasn't hot, but I turned down the AC and pointed a fan towards the cage (not full blast-it was across the room) just in case. His brother was fine, hopping around and all. I talked to Marcell and made soft noises, but got no response; he just stared at me. No blinks, no movement. Then after about an hour, he was acting normal again. Any ideas?

I am not really sure of a reason. I just wanted to say that it is not a good idea to aim a fan at your birds' cage as it causes a draft.

try to keep them under a light and see what happens...I would say he must have just been very tired...but ur instinct is the best one cuz u know them best...but i would say give them 2 hours at least during the day and observe if its repeated then just kind of call a vet to check in with the behavior!!!!

My instinct says sick and he should see a vet. Open mouth breathing when not overheated is a sign of an ill finch.
