Post My canary needs help!!

Thank-you 4 Ur help ... The powder is a yellow colored and its a vitamin that the veterinarian has given me to mix with water during the molt period. But any idea of how long the molt period usually takes for healthy canary? We are in our fourth month now... will it be soon that I hear him sing again?
Just another question ... is there a special months that canary molt?
Or every canary has their own time?
How long is the molt time? (in months)

Hi, I have a red factor canary, and when he molted the first time, he stopped singing for about 5 months, i have always given him the quicko red factor food(its an orange colored egg food for molting). He gets it daily in a treat cup as an extra supplement. Quicko makes this for yellow canaries as well. Go to youtube.com and play some canary videos- hearing other birds sing will get your bird singing again. Also put your canary in front of the window with the window open. He has to hear other birds singing and i promise that will fix your problem. If you want they do sell canary song cds.
Hope this helps you.
:)

You can also try giving him some extra protein right now. Fix him some scrambled eggs with the shells crunched up in them. Canaries do not retain protein in their bodies and need it, especially during a molt. When I had canaries, I had one that didn't sing for almost 6 months when he went through his first molt. A molt takes a lot out of them.

hey there,
first canaries have a season for molt that's the beginning of autumn if it's not autumn where u are then probably u have began covering the bird or turning off the lights earlier than usual.

A molt doesn't have a specific time the more u give ur bird vitamins the less it would last. My canaries are molting now it's a very difficult time for them what I do is offer boiled eggs with the shell for them, & i boil them some canary seeds(to be changed after an hour) they love that!! Vitamin D from the sun is also EXTREMELY important but dont leave him in the sun for too long just cover part of the cage so he could choose which part to sit.
You could also offer him some carrots the new feathers will grow out orange!

During this time my canaries also dont approach me even though they're very tame, they don't like to come out of their cage.

About the singing now is a good time to introduce ur canary to new canary songs because he is renewing brain cells by the time the molt is over. You will find a new singing tone in his voice, he may not be singing but he is watching ur every move & learning every single sound around him!!!!!

I wouldn't worry if I were you, you got the vitamins ur on the right track, keep talking to ur canary even if he gets scared from u more than usual it's a hard time for him but he still appreciates ur company.

I'm sure pretty soon ull start hearing him singing n a low voice, that's how my canaries start singing after a molt.Even if feathers aren't falling down and he's still not singing remember that new ones are coming out so his body is still renewing feathers.

I hope my post helped.
Regards,
Zeina
