Double Bars

Ok. So we have 2 pairs of double bars but sadly 1 has died.

So we went to our local breeder and got another one but we are not sure if a male of female died and we are not sure if we go a male or female

So if anybody can help can you tell me how to easily tell male and female double bars apart.

Double bars? Are these budgies? If so then we need face photos of the living bird to determine gender. The one in the signature Photo hanging upside down appears to be a male but its too far away to be sure.

They are generally called doublebars in Australia, and that is what they are listed as in the field guides. I have 8, and I would not have a clue how many are male or female, I have tried and tried to work them out but I just can't! (I have them all banded differently so I can identify the individuals). The only ones I know for sure are males that I have seen singing, but other then that I'm just guessing. If you put the birds by themselves and they start to sing their rhythmical little song, then they will be male, but they don't always sing so you can't always be sure!
