Canary with cockatiels?

My friend just got a canary, and she has it in a big cage with her 2 cockatiels. I said I didn't think that was a good idea, but she says they are fine. What does anyone else think???

.. That doesn't sound very safe, to me. I'd put the canary in its own cage.

The cockatiel could easily hurt the canary, and believe it or not, the canary could badly injure the cockatiel!

No, not only because of injuries, the canary has different dietary needs than the tiel!!! He needs his own cage.

Often Tiels are very Docile and given enough space it could be OK. HOWEVER, that said I would never mix finches with most hook bills simply because of experience. I had a canary lose a leg with one simple bite from a lovebird!! But then Lovebirds are aggressive. That also said....I have Australian grass keets in my aviary with canary and other finches but they have alot of space and the grass keets are VERY docile. I do not believe that the canary will hurt the Tiels however unless he is abnormally aggressive.

I agree with Lori, however - why gamble? They are live animals after all and i have personally had to put a canary to sleep after it had its leg mauled by a hookbill.
