Ole is still twirling but singing too

So Ole I think has an inner ear condition and he doesn't know which way is up. I've put him in a small travel cage, that way he doesn't fall so much. He can sit on his little perch and floor and seems to constantly try to adjust but still has trouble. I've given him every remedy possible, lots of vitamins and treats. He eats a ton...sorting through the seed for his favorites and spilling everything else out. When I hang his cage outdoors in the apple tree he signs his heart out. I know, I should bring him to an avian vet, but I'm job seeking and groceries for me is the priority now. He seems to be OK. Just wondering if others have experience w/ this and if there's anything else that I can do.

More specifically...he tilts his head sideways....to the right only. So his right eye is looking down to the ground and his left eye is looking up at the sky. He eats and drinks and sings. When I went to clean his larger cage he fell to the floor and rolled...the small one I put him in seems to confine his spastic movements and he does better...and doesn't seem to mind because he's singing his little heart out. I thought maybe his ear got clogged from a bath.....but everything looks fine.

Well for now, I would think to moniter him closely. If you're noticing something wrong, it's probably pretty bad already. As soon as you can, get him to the vet, of course, or have a close friend/relative take him for you.

I agree!!!! VET AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!! Canaries are known to hide illnesses, even if he's singing as soon as u see anything is wrong with him it should be fixed...

It's weird though what would have caused this could he have been bitten by an insect or something?

If he truely is twirling there are some treatments available, but I would rule out other issues with a vet first.

No, he had been inside only...suppose a spider may have found him..but don't think so. My best guess is that he has water in his ear and it's clogged from the water baths I would provide. That's why he can't balance his head straight but otherwise healthy, strong, good weight, singing, eating...everything is fine accept his head that swings way down, sometimes, not always....
So how much do you estimate an avian vet visit to cost???

That depends on the vet. Call them and ask, you can also set up a payment plan with most vets.

My canaries have baths all the time, everyyday & they really duck their heads in the water, they never encountered such a problem :S:S.
So don't think its from the water, it could be an infection somewhere & if u wait for a long time it could get worse.

It's been a month now that I noticed this condition. He sleeps on his perch w/ his head under his wing. The small cage seems to help him w/ his balance since he can't fall far or miss judge a perch. He eats and sings and drinks..no baths in this small cage. I continue w/ suppliments and treats. It's not getting worse, but it's not getting better.
