Blood finch (pic)
Not a common species, the Australian Blood finch in its two former subspecies black and white bellied streches throughout northern Australia. They are a normal finch size, with a long tail and are also known as the crimson finch, or pheasant-tailed finched. They rail form the family of Neochmia with Star finches and red-brows, all Aussie native.
they are not popular due to their pugnacious nature of killing anything that is smaller than it or that has the slightest flash of red on its body. They also require large housing and 3 cocks to one.
I was giving my male a checkup when got this first shot, as its hard to get photos when they are in their cage.
because you cant see my male properly theres a photo after just of a googled pick.
Beautiful vibrant red, worth the aviary.
Zac
