Need Help with new Finches Please

Any good sites for finches? I got 4 little guys in a huge cage for a gift for my son and these guys I will admit I know nothing about these guys.
For exapmle.... do they need grit? They came with it and I haven't hread much good about the stuff.
I will also admit, I have limited time to scour the internet so any suggestions about be great.

I am at a loss as to why you would get these birds without researching first but anyway...

here's a link that will give you some basics...
How to care for a Finch - Finch Cages, Finch Care, Finch Illnesses

BTW do you know what species these guys are?

Finches make great first bird pets. Throw the grit away - they dont need it. They do need calcium in the form of cuttle bone or Oyster shell. Do you have pics of them you can post so we can help you more? Do you know what kind they are??

Finches are delightful happy birds. They were my first and now I have a Green Winged! You can usually find a book about them at a petstore that will give you all the basics you need to know. PetSmart should have something.

You can also purchase egg shell for calcium. In order to be of more help, we really need to know what species they are. Can you take a photo?

They DO NOT need a nest. If you got one with them, take it out. A nest will only cause them to breed. Birds sleep on perches with one foot up, even finches.

Depends if she got males and females. If not, then a nest is really nice for them to have.

Some other basics that my finches love: swing, cuttle bone, millet, nesting material to play with, occassional fresh veggies--mostly celery leaves or spinach.

Good luck!

If she managed to get all males, a nest will cause territorial behavior, which can lead to birds killing one another. If she got all females, they will lay continuously until they become eggbound. Nests are never good unless you are trying to breed.

Hmmm. My pair of males really love their nest. They were fighting a while back, so I removed the nest, but I don't think it was related. I wouldn't take mine away again, they love it too much.
