My Canary Sings ALL the Time
Hello all! I am new to this forum. I purchased a little canary (I think he is an American Singer, as opposed to a Fife, but I am not sure) not quite two weeks ago. He warmed up to his new home very quickly. The next morning after I brought him home, he was already chirping a lot, and after I played some canaries singing on YouTube, he began to sing right away.
In fact, I have found that almost any sort of music, whether on the computer, the stereo, or the t.v. starts a competition with him. It is hard to believe one little bird can be that loud! He even begins to sing whence he hears the news reporters talking on t.v.
I found he begins to sing very shortly after I take off the blanket in the morning, and then he sings almost constantly the rest of the day. He does not slow down much before I put him to bed, usually around 7:30--8:00. I have heard some people find it difficult to get their canaries singing, so I am wondering why this little chap sings so much. He even begins to sing if he hears me on the telephone! Mind, I am not upset that he sings so much, but I am puzzled by it after all of the things I have read.
I purchased him from a pet store, and although his leg is banded, they claimed they did not know how old he is. Any ideas why he sings almost constantly?? Is it common for canaries to sing so much and so loud?
This is the first canary I have had in well over 40 years, and I do not remember too much about the ones I had as a child. I think they sang, but I do not recall them singing as much, or as loudly, as this little guy. He seems to be one happy birdie! He bounces around his cage a lot, too. It tires me out to watch him bounce around the cage as much as he does. I would think it exhausts him, but it does not seem to do. I also have noticed his little eye watching me from between two of the cage's bars. I think he tries to get my attention a lot of the time! I find this all so curious!
