Unhappy I had to put my cat down today.

This is a sad day for me. I had to have my cat Hope put to sleep. She developed a tumor in her neck about 6 months ago. The biopsy said it was inconclusive so I had hope. But after only 2 wks it was apparent it was cancer because it was growing fast. Last night she had a hard night coughing so I made the decision it was time. I already miss her. I got her 10 yrs ago and she has been a constant companion to me. Always under my feet. I bet I say 100 times a day "move hope". I'm glad I got my birds in februray. They should help some with the lonliness. I can't believe she's gone........This post is for my beloved HOPE, may she rest in peace. Tammy

OMG! I am so sorry! I had to put my cat down too. I took her to the vet when she started getting sick and they misdiagnosed her. a couple months later, she was losing weight like crazy and trying to hide, like she knew her time was near. Vet said she had a large mass growing in her stomach.

That was back in September.

I still miss her. I hate how many people dont seem to understand that losing a pet is just as hard as losing a close friend. My mom always told me to just accept all that I was feeling in the grieving process and to not be hard on myself - i have had every right to feel how i have felt about losing her. And of course, you may even feel as if you are to blame.

But I think your cat knew that you loved her. And i am sure she understood you did all that you could. Celebrate the life of your kitty, even if its through tears. Maybe get some pictures together and put them in a frame with some candles and flowers for remembrance. What ever helps you grieve.

I am really sorry for your loss, and you arent alone through it!

I know how you feel. Some years back my family lost our first dog due to a tumor aswell...You did the right thing. Our dog suffered quite a bit before he died. I still think about it sometimes and wish we would have put him down...

My cat Bosco passed away Thursday morning, June 12th. I thought he had a cold and I was going to take him to the vet that morning but it was too late. I am so full of guilt that I was not there when he passed and he died all alone. That I didn't do something sooner. He was only 9 years old and my first cat. Bosco was a part of me, every where I went he was right beside me. I cannot stop the tears and the pain is excutiating. Now I know what they mean by "broken heart". Mine hurts so bad.
Thanks for listening,
Love Bobbie

I'm sorry to hear about your loss and that you were faced with such a tough decision but we do the best we can and try to move forward. Soon the sad memories will start to take a back seat to all the good memories you had with her.

Birdlady - Bosco may have purposely waited to be alone. Dogs and cats do that all the time. Losing a pet is hard enough. Don't beat yourself up with guilt.

So sorry for your loss!!!
Cats are such special creatures....I always think they are more spiritual and dogs are more earthy.
I have lost cats, dogs and birds before and the pain is so real and so intense.....I think the pain we feel at the loss of animal is so profound because the love we feel for them and the love they give us is so pure and so unconditional.
I dread losing any more but I know it will happen.....I thank God for every day I have with my babies and for those that have gone, I am so thankful for the joy and love they brought to my life.
When the pain subsides and the time is right, consider bringing a new kitty life into your home. The spirit of that cat will help to heal...trust me, I've been there.
Run free, Hope!!!....
