I've spent the past 4 hours moving kittens around as my cat Puffle popped them out like a champ. I have to say that even after 20 litters delivered since I started rescuing or rehabilitating cats this is my first litter with my own cat and it was just the nicest accident ever. Unfortunately I was really sick when she coordinated her first very invisible and silent heat to coincide with the stars aligning properly and here we are 9 weeks later. She and the father were both rescues I held onto because they were just the sweetest cats I've fostered and yes he's on his way to the vets this week for neutering (and she's going as soon as the babies are weaned).
She is a tiny little thing so as she kept growing and growing I was beginning to worry but she gave birth to 6 healthy and LARGE kittens without any fuss. In fact she went into labor about as quietly as she did into heat and it was about a minute between when she went into the birthing box and had her first kitten, I barely had time to look up to see what the snuffling noise was. The babies look to be mostly grey marble tabbies, some with white like Puffle and one mackerel tabby like the proud daddy and a dark grey and white tuxedo.
She is so sweet and trusting and let me move them to a kitten brooder between feedings and giving birth to the next baby and so I could check them over (and take pictures!). She would chase after me every time I left the room though so I've been camped out on the floor since 4pm. :D Now everyone is in the large kitten basket for feeding. Cuteness overload so I thought I'd share!
We'll have a hard time finding great homes I think because even though these babies will doubtlessly have amazing personalities I'm going to be really choosy! At least I have 10 weeks with them. :)
