I need serious advice, my cat is dying

I've had outside at night cats for the past 17 years and theres never been a problem, but we've recently got this neighbor in our neighborhood that hates cats and owns to black labs, and now people's cats are vanishing. Our cat Alex was 7 years old when she never came back a few weeks ago, and now our other cat crash comes to our door step with a missing foot this morning. The vet says it's most likely from a inhumane trap because of how clean the cut is, so we go to animal control and their basically saying it's ok to have those dogs running around the neighborhood at night, but it's against the law for cats.

I find this statement completely infuriating, because now if I don't have come up with the money, I'm forced to euthanize my best friend while theres someone that lets their Boston terriers and labs roam the neighborhood freely and take such violent actions upon someone elses cat.

The damage looked bad, hes missing almost all of his back toes on one foot, but do you think they'll be able to help him heal somehow?

That injury sounds pretty bad, and I am definetly not a vet, but just from having cats and dogs myself for years I have seen some injurys to, if he is missing his toes the whole leg could have to be taken off, because it would be hard for the cat to walk on a stub and it would take much longer to heal that way. That is a horrible situation to be in, what did the vet say they could do about it? I am to blown away by that statment!! What if someones dog is running lose at night and someone gets bit by that dog, it is going to be animal controls fault, because they were made aware of the situation and did nothing! Where do you live? I know here in Indiana your dog or dogs can not be free roaming at anytime, and it doesn't matter what breed it is. If your dog is caught running free you can face fines here, but the main concern is the dog attacking someone, because you can't look at a dog and tell if it is mean or nice. Those animal control officers should be concerned about the safety of the neighborhood, because it doesn't matter what the breed is, because if one person does it then more people could start doing it! You might one night have to catch the dogs running free and call the police we had to do that one time. We couldn't get animal control to catch this pack of dogs that almost killed my moms cairn terrier so we got the police involved and then they came out and caught them! I don't know what I would do in that situation, if you can't get anyone to do anything about the dogs you might have to consider making the cats inside only to keep them safe! I hope though everything works out for you!

I found something that really infuriated me, about 20 feet from my house in a public lot, there was a inhumane trap with rope and this razor barbwire material. I turned it into the police station and the officer said this is what they use in prisons or to capture something.

It had rope, and a complete circle of extremely sharp razors. They had a hard time bringing it in because the needles were stabbing through the box with ease

I would talk the injury over with you vet. If you get him and keep infection at bay he should return to being able to get around without problems. Cat like dogs are curious of any trap that has been set, you need to solve that problem.

Im sorry to hear about your cat. Do you think there is someone setting traps in the neighborhood? I have unfortunately known people to say that if something comes wandering into their yard and its their property than what happens to them isnt their problem. SO maybe someone is setting these cats up? Which would be sick but it doesnt surprise me these days what people are capable of doing.

I hope they can heal your poor babies foot. I will keep both of you in my thoughts, how terrible. What a rough situation.

Do have treatment for your cat, they can live well without a leg if it comes to that, my thoughts are with her, I'll light incense for her recovery. As for the nasty neighbour....can you report the traps to the RSPCA or whoever? Report the traps to the police, they may not care about someones cat but if you point out the traps may get some poor kid running around they MAY care. Do you have an idea where Alex might have gone, where the trap might be? Let your other animal owning neighbours know about your cats troubles and that you suspect that the neighbour in question...perhaps the court of public opinion might make some impact, it also means they might be able to protect their animals

That's horrible. People can be so cruel. Maybe you should keep your cats inside? Inside cats live on average longer than outside cats.

Thank you all for informative answers, I was kinda freaking out, I didn't want to put him down. We found out who set the razor wire trap

I just received a call from the vet, they said even though the whole flesh of the foot was hanging off, all the toes are still attached and he'll most likely recover his back foot again. He's going to be wearing a cast for a few weeks, but I am so relieved that he's ok. I'll be keeping my cats inside now as much as they love being outside, but I didnt think people would set something as dangerous as a razor wire trap in a public lot, I mean, children play in those lots, someone could get seriously hurt.

Well, I hope that whoever set the trap is going to be fined as it was in a public lot.

As curious as children are, any child could have tripped that trap and could have had serioys injuries.

I hope that your kitty will recover soon.
