ARGH! stupid vet

So my tiel banged off a blood feather yesterday and I had a bit of trouble getting it to stop bleeding. Then he would not quit messing with it and I was a bit worried that the shaft might still be in there and need to come out cause every once in a while during his preening I could still see a little blood. So off to the vet we went. Verdict.. he was fine. And I figured okay since we are here I asked the vet if would clip his wings. He said yes...and then proceeded to absolutly mangle my poort tiels wings. One side is clearly cut shorter than the other.

So I am think I should take him and get this evened up? Or will his normal preening take care of this? Poor guy looks ragged and lopside now. I probably won;t be going back to this vet again. Wouldn't have gone yesterday except it was a touch of an emergency. Better safe than sorry. And he certainly will not be wing trimming again. grrrr.

If you don't like this vet, do find another. It probably wouldn't be a good idea if the wings were completely chopped off to try and even them out... they are already bad as is... so with molting time he will grow in new ones..

I hate ignorant vets. Or just the people who trim wings.

Our vet is wonderful, she loves Aree to death (first brown head she's seen in her 14 years of work) so she's always extra gentle and loving.

When we got Freddie and Palmer in January, we took them to our vet and she was horrified. Said that the wing clipping was WAY to harshly done, and that we shouldn't clip their wings any more for a few months to let it grow out. We had seen the wings before, but didn't know it was THAT bad...

(PS: We didn't cut their wings originally. It was their previous owner, Michele)

Stupid ignorant owners and vets. Drives me insane.

Hopefully your little guy's wings will grow out nicely.

A little clipping is fine.. or at least an EVEN clipping. hehe although Sydney did pay the vet back a few times. He bite him no less than 5 times. But the guyis rough. Like I said had it not been a touch of an emergency I wouldn't have gone there. But I didn't want to try to drive all the way across town if he started bleeding again,

Hmm, quick question, did the vet charge you for the clipping?

The only AV in my area doesn't do clipping, infact no AV within getting to distance for me does wing clipping. if you can find another one that does it properly go with them, if not and clipping's a must, You might just have to put up with a bit of un-evenness.
