That is mostly what I do. I string treats in toys that I can and make it so getting the toy ends up in a favorite food.

Wooden chew toys I place in easy to chew places. I will also touch their beak with the toy and say "get it".

I will have the birds out and phisically play with the toys as well. Just like a little kid, if you are having fun, it must be good!

There are some toys that have soft "preening" things on them, even some with feathers. Another good one to get them more active is shred a box and other ways of hiding food instead of just food in a dish 24/7. Foraging toys like wrapping a hunk of millet in a tissue paper wrapper like candy. Poke some of those on a bird kabob. I found small kabobs with a bell on the bottom in the hampster isle which work great for small birds. You can put apple and brocooli on the kabob and make food into a toy. Take the seed cup out for some times when you do this.
