Happy Mother's Day!! Two Boys and Two Girls

The local pet store that I purchase most of my bird seed and such has an avian vet come in every Mother's Day so people can bring in their birds and have them surgically sexed and clipped for only $20.

Well, Joe and I took Baby and Bert, the two tiels, and our two conures BooBoo and Yogi in. We were told that we had a male and female of each, the tiels and conures. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!! Joe and I are proud parents of two surgically sexed female tiels! Baby and Bert are now BABY AND BERTIE, lol

And our two cinnamon conures, Yogi was the female and BooBoo was the male... HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!! We are proud parents of two healthy BOYS! Lol. Whew... Glad we found out, we would have been a little concerned down the road, lol.

Congrats! LOL At least you know now & can call them the right names. I got lucky with mine. The breeder told me what she thought they were & when I had them DNA tested, the breeder was right. So I didn't have to change anyones name. Well, Nalah hasn't been sexed yet. Not sure if she's a girl or not. She is bigger then my male though, so who knows. LOL Crystal

Lmao...I really don't mind that my "Fat Hen" is now a "Fat He". After reading all the posts about peoples little girls getting egg bound and stuff, I think my mind is more at peace now. At least I don't have to worry about it with Yogi anymore. (It really has had me scared). As for my two female tiels... I'm sure the conversation is much better without male input, lol. Hehe..just kidding guys!

OK, wait a minute. How did they determine your birds sexes on the spot there? Did you mean to say, "Surgically sexed?" I don't get it.

Lol. I said the same thing. It's not an easy thing to watch. But they put your bird under anesthesia, then they make a little cut, insert a tube with a camera, and they can see the testicles or no testicles. Testicles being a boy. Then they put a little stuff on there, like clear glue, he called it instant stitches, and wham, the bird wakes up just a touch groggy, and youre good to go. Weird, I know... But all my babies woke up and within a few minutes, it was like it didnt happen at all. They were wide eyed and bushy tailed, in no pain at all! It really was pretty amazing!!!!

WOW!!! I can't believe they did that! Isn't it fun to know their sexes? There is something about us humans that make us want to know! I feel kinda smart, because I think I had guessed Bert to be a female. hehe I'm going to check back to our posts to see, but I think that's what I said.

It really was pretty amazing to watch. I was shaking like a leaf and my knees were all wibbly wobbly. The gal that was assisting the vet kept asking me if I was alright.. I guess I was hugging her too tight.

I think tielmama, you asked me if I was sure Bert, aka Bertie was a male. See, I should have paid you and saved myself the bruised knees, hehe
