Operation Success

So after losing Petree, i have been thinking...i dont think birds are suppose to get sick or be operated on. I spose if they were out in the wild, they would not make it. I just want to see if many people have success stories with operations on cockatiels or budgies? I know the odds on larger birds are much better, but because the smaller birds are so tiny, i wonder if surgery is too much for their little bodies to handle? (maybe its just me dwelling, i feel as though i should or could have done more for my bird... :(

Petree

This is Petree after she got an air cannula in. Her first operation :( She looks soo cute with her little neck brace on and she was such a trooper, she never complained, always looked happy and she was a beautiful bird. RIP

I'm sorry for your loss. I think sometimes God takes back the sweet ones far too young. I've never had a tiel undergo surgery as J-Bell is only the second tiel I have had in my life and the first one was a rehome when I was young. But I can imagine how devestating losing her is and I realize you must be mourning.

Think about it this way... it's easier to operate on a human or even an elephant as compared to a mouse... it's more difficult because you have to be extra careful with the smaller creatures because it's possible to crush or kill them by making cuts too deep or otherwise. Not only that but birds are far more sensitive to anesthesia than other animals because they rely on their lungs A LOT!

The only bird I know that has gone through surgery is Charlie... however, that was before I got him! He had a beak injury, and it was gruesome!
