That is the bare minimum that I would ever keep a single tiel in. At first you said it was one foot in width, which is 12 inches, smaller than the new measurement you are giving, but not by much. For two, you really do need a much bigger cage. While yes, they can live in it, they don't have tons of room to run around, climb, flap, or get other exercise. This can lead to fatty liver disease which kills too many birds.

I am worried that the aluminum may have sharp edges or points where they can get cut and that the corners look like feathers and toenails can become caught in.

If it works and the tiels are safe, I'm happy for you, but I still say they need more space.

For one bird, the minimum is 24x24x24 inches, bar spacing should be 1/2 an inch. For two tiels, make the cage as big as you can fit in your house. My tiels live in a cage that is 4 feet wide, 3 feet deep and 3 1/2 feet high, approximately.

You do not need to get baby tiels to tame them, but you do need to work with the birds, at least 30 minutes every day, seperately and out of sight of each other. Taming will be easier if you cage them in two seperate cages.

You said they are both whiteface lutino tiels, which is pure white, am I correct? If so, you can DNA test them or judge by how they act. Males will bang their beaks on things, sing a lot, and hold their wings out to the sides and strut, this will be heart shaped from above. Females are generally quieter.

If they are related and a male and female, you will want to cage them sepately so they do not breed with each other. Inbreeding birds does cause birth defects.

If the birds have identification bands on them, they may have their hatch year stamped on it, other than that, you can only guess. There is currently no way to tell how old a bird is unless you can talk to the breeder and find out when they hatched.

christie99,
thanking you again.well, i have noted down your reply.and i will make the nexe by this month itself.but, firstly, i will make of that 24x24x24. for my traveling purpose.coz, i am having two houses. in weekends i will go frm one to another, so,nowadays i am keeping this tiels with me while my travel. and keeping in my bedrooms.and i am sure that, after getting tamed them with me, then i can easly handle those with my travel.Let Almighty bless to.

actually i have no idea, weather this is lutino tiles.its in pure white with an orange round in both sides of cheeks, bellow of eyes(as the places of our ears on head)

and yes i can feel differences on both. that, one is with a little seriousness and the other is showing too shy.may be first is male and the other is a female.but, the male is showing a little affection, and got more bravery , and trust on me, they will not move that much, when i am opening the cage. sometimes he will try to come to me to test millets frm my hand.

and also, christie99, could u explain more on what u have meant for by this: "seperately and out of sight of each other. Taming will be easier if you cage them in two seperate cages.'
means, i have to put them in two cages?? without of sight of each other?? that, on the time, whn i m trying to tame, is not applicable to catch both and to separate each??or do i need to do so?

thanking you again in advance

When you train, take the one you are taming to another room. This will keep the other bird out of sight so they will focus on you. Don't try to work with both birds at the same time, you will get nowhere, that is what I meant by seperately.

It is easier to tame if they are caged seperately, yes, that means two cages, but you can tame them if they live together, it will just take more time. The reason for this is they will bond more to you instead of the other bird.

Yes, it does sound like you have lutino birds. You will either have to tell by behavior, or DNA test the birds. Please, if any eggs are laid, boil them so they will not hatch. The birds are probably related and the babies could have problems.

well, i have fixed two swings inside the cage, each at an height of 3.5inch frm bottom. put orange paint and hanged with chain.but, they are not even looking at these.! what i have to do, i have to decrease the height from 3.5inch?? also, have put a knotted cotton rone to climbe, it also same same.
now, i am to make a play gym with branches and feeing trays.

any guidance??

also, my dear christie99 and all other co memebrs, thanking you very much for sharing responses with this thread.

I have swings in my cages too, and some birds love to swing, and others do not like the movement of swinging. Let them get used to the swings, leave them in the cages, they may use them later. Thank you for working so hard in trying to have happy birds.
