Talking Couldn't get a better deal!!

A Lutino cockatiel, his cage and a bucket of food and treats for $25.00? Yes, I got a companion for Star for that price from Craigslist. I saw an ad that said a cockatiel needs a home SASP. I couldn’t believe that the lady wanted him for that price. What’s more amazing is that cockatiel can talk too. He can say pretty bird, whatcha ya doin. He mimics some beautiful whistles. He’s adopting to his new home just fine. He’s been alone for 2 years(without companion birds). He’s amazingly happy. He sings all day long. He’s also very friendly towards Star. He makes sounds like he wants to impress Star. I prepared a big cage full of toys. I hope they can keep each other company. I will post pics as soon as I have some.

That's great! What's his name? They should really have been quarentined for at least 30 days before they were introduced so if you get any more in the future... I got all my adult tiels off of CL. Zeke was the first, well, he was really supposed to be a present for my aunt since she had been looking for a tiel but I kept him. I paid $25 for him, his cage, and they had a huge shopping bag of stuff that came with him also. It was at least $50 worth of food and toys. Sophie was $40 with her cage and toys but worth every penny. The thing that made me laugh is that the guy had just bought a new bag of seed for her but said he wanted $5 for it. I said no and then wondered what he was going to do with it if he didn't have her anymore, lol. I paid the most for Chloe and Moe ($60) but they were so poorly taken care of and looked so miserable that I couldn't leave them there. Worth every penny! Gotta love CL sometimes!

I made sure that the bird, Sparky, was healthy before I put them together. I contacted the avian vet where he used to be seen.. They told me he's very healthy. As for CL, I got to say it's great.

Do keep an eye on both birds. Many kinds of birds will appear healthy, even to a vet, and be harboring something that can make the other sick. That is why, even with solo birds it is necessary to quarantine.

I'm glad that you got a companion for Star, but to be on the safe side, please keep them in seperate cages for now. Star is new to you and having another bird in the cage may make him/her bond to the bird, and not you.

I read that article. You guys are freaking me out here. I hope that all birds are safe. This will be the last time I will do this. I promise.

I do hope they are both fine, but it is better to keep a close eye out!

I did have to forgo quarantine once, I took in a rescue from an abusive home while I was on vacation. I went out and purchased a new cage and everything, but there was no other room that was off of the air space. Luckily, other than starvation, pressure sores, and a broken foot, that bird was healthy. But, I can tell you that I was VERY nervous for quite a while, even after the all's well from the vet!!

From what you have already said Sparky sounds like a boy! If Star IS a girl be you may have a real pair there! It's wonderful that he is already chatting her up. Males can be a little agressive sometimes but they have to establish their own little pecking order. Try not to get too upset. Just give her a little extra love and she'll be fine.

She's just not interested in his singing or maybe she thinks that he has a terrible voice. It may be a matter of time. I know that he's trying his best. She keeps trying to bite him but he thinks it's to soon to give up.
As for me, I am just hoping that they can be compatible.

It's all part of the game! He will do the best he can to get her attention and she will do the best she can to ignore him. She may even do a few mock strikes if he gets too close too fast...Men!

Remember, allowing them to breed under 2 years old can be dangerous for the hen, just in case it crosses your mind. It is best to do all you can to keep them from getting too comfortable. Remember, no happy huts, boxes or small dark areas to play in. 12+ hours of sleep every night.
